Team Carinthia was representing Austria at the Docs on Ice tournament 2013 in Canada, April 18 – 20.
Docs on Ice is an annual fundraising doctors hockey tournament that began in 1983, inspired by the memory of hockey player and Urologist, Dr. Peter Howes from Peterborough, who was killed in a motor vehicle accident. Docs on Ice is hosted by a different city each year to raise funds for a local charity in the host community.
Stratford and St. Marys hosted the 2013 Docs on Ice hockey tournament and rolled out the welcome mat for over 800 doctors and medical students that came to town to enjoy a great two days of hockey.
The 2013 tournament was run by physicians and volunteers to raise money through donations, sponsorship, registration fees, and special events with all proceeds going directly to benefit the Ontario Lung Association and will be used to develop resources for children with asthma.
